The African Union (AU) has decided to immediately suspend the participation of the Republic of Madagascar in all activities, organs, and institutions of the Union, until the restoration of constitutional order.
This measure comes a day after the announcement, in Antananarivo, of the army’s seizure of power and the dissolution of all institutions except for the National Assembly, which had earlier voted to remove President Andry Rajoelina from office.
Since September 25, Madagascar has been shaken by a protest movement that began over recurring water and electricity cuts and has now expanded to broader demands.
