Chad’s Ministry of Finance, Budget, Economy, and Planning has announced the mobilization of $1.1 billion to accelerate the country’s electrification by 2030.

This strategy is part of the national development plan "Chad Connexion 2030”, presented in 2025. The ambition is to reach an electricity access rate of 60%, thus providing millions of households and businesses with reliable and affordable energy.

To achieve this, 866 MW of new capacity will be installed, including 520 MW from solar power, accounting for more than half of the additions in order to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons and stabilize electricity costs.

The program aims to encourage private investment and modernize grids, both in urban centers and rural areas. The stated goal is to make Chad a regional benchmark in energy access—an attractive country for investors and a driver of progress for its population.

Chad currently has one of the lowest electricity access rates in the world, with production mainly based on thermal sources. It aims to reach a 60% access rate.

According to the World Bank, only 6% of the Chadian population has access to electricity, with the rate falling to 1–2% in rural areas.
