Regional elections in Cameroon will be held on November 30, according to a decree signed by President Paul Biya convening the electoral college for the election of regional councilors.
These regional elections will take place more than a month after the presidential election scheduled for October 12. In total, 900 regional councilors will be elected by a single-round plurality vote for a five-year term, with 90 councilors for each of Cameroon’s ten regions.
The regional councils, provided for in the 1996 Constitution, are part of the decentralization process aimed at strengthening the capacities of decentralized local authorities for local development.
