The Burkinabe Ministry of Security has announced the introduction of the breathalyzer as part of its road safety measures.

The operation targets the cities of Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and Koudougou, and aims to significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents and casualties in major urban centers.

According to the Ministry of Security, the initiative has been well received by road users. Several citizens have expressed particular appreciation for the inclusion of the breathalyzer in road traffic control measures and have urged their compatriots to adopt more responsible behavior in order to promote safer roads.

The interventions will focus on compliance with traffic regulations, including checks on vehicle lighting, blood alcohol levels, the use of mobile phones while driving, speeding, circulation hours for certain categories of three- and four-wheeled vehicles, as well as any other accident-prone behavior. Awareness campaigns will also address the importance of wearing helmets.
