Burkina Faso and Chad have just signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of mining and geology, announced Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Quarries.

The document was signed in Ouagadougou by Burkina Faso’s Minister in charge of Mines, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, and his Chadian counterpart, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye.

The signing of this memorandum marks a strategic turning point for South-South cooperation, focused on sharing expertise and modernizing mining practices.

Chad, currently reviewing its mining code, could greatly benefit from Burkina Faso’s recognized expertise in this area. Burkina Faso has substantial experience in revising its own mining code, having adopted a new law in July 2024.

Furthermore, the first International Mining and Quarries Exhibition of Chad is scheduled to take place from November 6 to 8, 2025. On this occasion, Chadian authorities have invited Burkinabe companies to participate, further strengthening prospects for future collaboration.
