Senegal and Guinea have signed, in Dakar, an implementation protocol of their bilateral agreement in the field of maritime fishing and aquaculture.
This new agreement aims to strengthen cooperation, protect fishery resources, and support maritime communities in both countries. It includes a framework for regulating fishing activities, protecting both artisanal and industrial fishers, and conducting joint maritime surveillance of the exclusive economic zones.
The new protocol also covers support for research and training, the fight against illegal fishing, and the establishment of cooperation in the sanitary control of fishery products.
Senegal’s Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Fatou Diouf, praised this step as one “based on trust, solidarity, and the shared vision of sustainable management of marine resources.”
This agreement reflects both countries’ commitment to sustainably enhancing marine resources and developing aquaculture “for the benefit of their respective populations,” added the Senegalese minister.
Her Guinean counterpart described the partnership as “a common response to the challenges posed by illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing — a scourge for our economies and marine ecosystems.”
