For the first time since 1991, Zimbabwe will participate in the Rugby World Cup, following a thrilling 30-28 victory over Namibia in the final of the Africa Cup.

This historic qualification places Zimbabwe alongside South Africa to represent the continent in Australia in 2027. The Sables defeated Namibia on Saturday, securing a spot in the expanded World Cup, which now features 24 teams.

It will be their third appearance, the last one dating back over three decades, according to Africanews.

Zimbabwe thus becomes the second African team to qualify, after reigning world champions South Africa. Moreover, it is also the third African nation ever to reach this level.

Despite holding a comfortable 30-16 lead with twenty minutes left, Zimbabwe had to withstand a spectacular comeback from Namibia, who scored two tries to narrow the gap to 30-28. A last-second penalty attempt from midfield was not enough for the Namibians to snatch victory.

This win is all the more remarkable as it marks only Zimbabwe’s fourth victory over Namibia in 35 encounters.
