Tanzania aims to attract 8 million tourists by 2030, according to the country’s Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Pindi Chana.

To reach this target by 2030, the government plans to enhance the quality of services and intensify the promotion of Tanzania’s tourist attractions. These new ambitions and related commitments were reaffirmed during the launch of Ngorongoro Day, an event designed to highlight the central role of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the development of domestic tourism.

The tourism sector performed well in 2024, recording 5.36 million visitors, including 2.14 million international and 3.22 million domestic tourists — up from 2 million in 2023, of which 1.1 million were international, according to authorities.

According to the Bank of Tanzania, international tourism revenues reached $3.37 billion in 2023, marking a 33.5% increase compared to the previous year.

The country has implemented several strategies to revitalize the tourism industry, which was severely impacted by the post-pandemic crisis in 2020 — a year when visitor arrivals dropped to just 437,000. Among these strategies are The Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania. It is worth noting that Tanzania remains one of Africa’s most popular tourist destinations.
