The Ghanaian Ministry of Education and the eLearning Africa initiative have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at expanding access to digital learning platforms nationwide.

This partnership reflects the government’s commitment to investing in infrastructure and pedagogical innovation to improve the quality of education. “Today marks more than just a formal agreement—it is a testament to Ghana’s commitment to being at the forefront of digital education transformation in Africa. Since 2005, eLearning Africa has been the continent’s leading platform for educational innovation,” said Deputy Minister of Education, Clement Apaak.

The new agreement provides for the deployment of modern digital tools in schools, particularly in underserved areas, as well as the strengthening of students’ core competencies.

It builds on the expertise of the eLearning Africa platform, which has been working with African governments for two decades to deliver context-relevant educational content.

The agreement comes at a time when Ghana is accelerating the digital transformation of its education system, though disparities in access remain a significant challenge. While internet penetration stands at 69.9%, more than 30% of Ghanaians are still offline, and rural schools are often under-equipped.

In the long term, the agreement could promote greater educational inclusion in remote areas and support Ghana’s ambition to become a hub of digital educational innovation on the African continent, by leveraging EdTech opportunities to reduce inequalities, strengthen learning outcomes, and prepare youth for the jobs of tomorrow.

In addition, Ghana has committed to hosting the 18th edition of the eLearning Africa conference from June 3 to 5, 2026, in Accra. The event will highlight the progress of the national program and the country’s education strategy for 2030.
