Ethiopia will adopt electronic voting for its upcoming general elections, scheduled for 2026, the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced.
The next elections will feature the use of an integrated digital system, marking a major step toward the modernization of Ethiopia’s electoral process, said NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu during a meeting held this week on the integration of digital technologies into the electoral system.
The NEBE is currently implementing a range of digital initiatives aimed at improving the transparency, efficiency, and accessibility of elections across the country, she noted.
“This includes the launch of comprehensive digital platforms for both candidate registration and voter enrollment,” the official explained.
