The General Staff of the Armed Forces (EMGA) and the Senegalese Space Studies Agency (ASES) have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at launching Senegal’s first satellite constellation.

The five-year strategic agreement lays the foundation for close cooperation between the two entities in the space sector, with the ambition to strengthen national defense capabilities and consolidate Senegal's technological sovereignty.

“This signing is historic. Today, we are taking a decisive step toward the future. This memorandum has major strategic significance,” said General Mbaye Cissé, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, as quoted by local media.

For his part, Maram Kaïré, Director General of ASES, welcomed a “long-term vision” that places space at the heart of national priorities.

“By creating ASES,” he stated, “the Senegalese government has expressed a clear ambition: to make the space sector a cross-cutting driver to impact all domains, with security as a top priority.”

The project is receiving technical support from Prométhée Earth Intelligence, a European company specializing in Earth observation, which will assist Senegal in the co-development of a sovereign, sustainable, and inclusive space capability.

This partnership is part of the implementation of Senegal’s national space strategy and reflects the country’s commitment to establishing itself as a key player in the development of the space sector on the African continent.
