In Togo, the next municipal elections will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025.
The announcement was made following the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, April 30, in Lomé, where a decree was issued setting the date for the election.
The electoral campaign will begin at midnight on Tuesday, June 24, and will end at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, July 8, according to the details outlined in the text broadcast on national television. During this two-week period, candidates will be expected to present their projects to voters and defend their political positions throughout the country.
To encourage women's participation in local politics, the authorities have set the candidacy deposit at 50,000 FCFA per candidate, while introducing a specific provision for women. Their deposit is set at 25,000 FCFA, half the amount required for their male counterparts.
The issue of public funding for the campaign was also addressed. A total of 500 million FCFA will be mobilized for this purpose. According to the provisions of the electoral code, 65% of this amount will be equally distributed among all candidates. The remaining 35% will be allocated based on the results obtained, with parties that have secured at least 10% of the votes being eligible for this second tranche.
Security measures are also planned to ensure the smooth running of the election. The defense and security forces will be deployed throughout the country to guarantee the proper conduct of operations. An early vote is scheduled for Monday, July 7, exclusively for the security forces, to allow them to fulfill their civic duties without disrupting the election security mission assigned to them, reports Togofirst.
