Ethiopia has announced its plan to launch its third Earth observation satellite (EOS) in 2026.
The project, unveiled by the Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute (ESSGI), focuses on developing a new Earth observation satellite with enhanced capabilities.
This new satellite is expected to provide higher resolution imagery and improved monitoring capacities compared to its predecessors.
While the financial details of the collaboration between Ethiopia and China, the primary partner in the project, were not disclosed, Tesfaye Fufa, Executive Director of Satellite Monitoring at ESSGI, confirmed that preparations for the launch are already underway.
Though Ethiopia’s space program is relatively young, it has made significant progress in a short time, Fufa stated.
