As expected, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has been elected to the FIFA Council as the main representative of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, was elected by a landslide (49 votes out of 52), securing the top spot among the Confederation of African Football (CAF) representatives on the FIFA Council. The election took place on Wednesday in Cairo during the 14th Extraordinary General Assembly of the continental football body.

Lekjaa significantly outpaced his rivals, including Egyptian Hani Abou Rida, Nigerien Djibrilla Hima Hamidou, Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya, and Djiboutian Souleiman Waberi.

Meanwhile, Comorian Kanizat Ibrahim secured the seat designated for female candidates.

CAF representatives on the FIFA Council are elected for a term ending in 2029.

This extraordinary general assembly also saw the re-election of Patrice Motsepe as president of CAF.
