ST Digital, a Cameroonian digital services company, has announced the acquisition of a site in the Nkok Special Economic Zone (GSEZ), located 27 km from Libreville, for the construction of an eco-friendly data center in Gabon.

The future data center will integrate cutting-edge technologies to minimize its carbon footprint.

The facility will utilize renewable energy sources, including solar panels and green electricity partnerships, along with sustainable cooling systems that incorporate adiabatic techniques and rainwater recycling. The project aims to strengthen Gabon’s digital sovereignty and economy.

"Gabon faces major challenges, such as dependence on foreign infrastructure for data hosting, online service latency, high connectivity costs, and increased cybersecurity risks," explains ST Digital, as quoted by Le Nouveau Gabon.

The data center will host sensitive data for public institutions, local businesses, and citizens, in compliance with national and international regulations.

Additionally, this project will enhance digital performance by reducing loading times, providing faster access to cloud services, and supporting key sectors such as healthcare, education, and administration. Moreover, the infrastructure will stimulate innovation by fostering an ecosystem for startups, tech investments, and the modernization of Gabonese businesses.

Located within the GSEZ of Nkok, a dynamic multi-sector industrial hub, this data center embodies our commitment to a connected, sovereign, and sustainable Gabon. "With the support of GSEZ, we are building an infrastructure that will position Gabon as a digital leader in Central Africa," stated Laïka Mba, General Manager of ST Digital Gabon.

According to the company, this project is part of its regional expansion strategy, with existing infrastructure already operational in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, and Congo. The eco-friendly data center in Gabon will complement this network while addressing local needs for digital sovereignty and sustainability.
