Burkina Faso's Ministry of Digital Transition, Posts, and Electronic Communications has outlined its key priorities for the digital sector in 2025. The announcement was made during the 2024 performance review ceremony, recently presided over by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo.

Among the flagship projects for 2025 are the completion of data center construction, which is already 70% complete, as well as the expansion of network coverage in white zones to at least 500 additional localities. The ministry also plans to strengthen the digitalization of administrative services, carry out mass enrollment of the population under the WURI electronic unique identification project, and launch the Digital Transformation Acceleration Project (PACT DIGITAL), with an estimated budget of $150 million.

Key initiatives in 2024 included a project to extend coverage to more than 130 localities in white zones, the rehabilitation of the National Administration IT Network (RÉSINA), the start of construction of two data centers, and the deployment of strategic digital platforms to accelerate transformation. Other significant actions involved the development of electronic signatures and legislative reforms to improve the country’s digital environment. The achievement rate for the ministry’s 2024 objectives stood at 90.4%.

These initiatives are expected to accelerate Burkina Faso’s digital transformation. The government aims to position the country as a leading African player in ICT integration across key sectors such as public administration, education, healthcare, commerce, and agriculture.

Currently, Burkina Faso ranks 175th out of 193 countries in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI), with a score of 0.2895 out of 1, which is below the averages for West Africa (0.3957), Africa (0.4247), and the world (0.6382).
