Nigerian singer Ayra Starr made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards on Tuesday night at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle, England.
The afrobeat sensation clinched two prestigious awards: Best African Act and Best International Act.
In the Best International Act category, Ayra Starr outshone global music icons such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, Tems, Asake, and Tyla. This remarkable feat cements her meteoric rise on the global stage.
The star also made history by becoming the first woman in 16 years to win Best African Act. For this award, she triumphed over afrobeats heavyweights like Asake, Rema, Burna Boy, Tems, and Tyla.
Beyond Ayra Starr's victory, British-Nigerian singer Darkoo won Best Female Act, prevailing over fierce competition from RAYE, Jorja Smith, Little Simz, Cleo Sol, and Nia Archives.
