The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) to August 2025. The tournament was initially scheduled to take place from February 1 to 28 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
"Significant progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda with the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training grounds, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities for the successful organization of the CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024," CAF stated in a press release.
However, CAF's technical and infrastructure experts, including some based in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, have requested additional time to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities meet the necessary standards to successfully host CHAN, the football governing body explained.
Meanwhile, CAF has confirmed that the draw for CHAN will take place this Wednesday in Nairobi at 8:00 PM local time.
Among the top-seeded teams in the draw are Senegal, the reigning champions, and Morocco, a two-time winner.
The exact date for the start of the CAF TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 in August 2025 will be announced "in due course," the statement concluded.
