At the start of 2025, Togo is making a remarkable breakthrough into the ranks of Africa’s most attractive tech hubs for investors. According to the platform Africa: The Big Deal, the West African country now ranks among the top five African states where startups have secured the most funding.

This achievement was made possible thanks to a $30 million fundraising round by Gozem, a Togo-based scale-up operating in mobility and financial services.

What makes Togo’s position even more striking is that it comes in the midst of a broader decline in funding—only $460 million raised by all African startups in the first quarter of 2025, compared to $486 million during the same period in 2024.

Gozem alone captured 6.5% of the total funding volume across the entire continent. Its fundraising, announced in February 2025 and backed by investors such as MSC Group and Al Mada Ventures, is set to accelerate the company’s expansion across Francophone Africa.

With this performance, Togo has, for the first quarter, joined the ranks of the continent’s tech giants—Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Egypt.
